Change of Plans

June was a busy month for me.  My husband, youngest daughter and I all went to California for a visit.  I had great plans to craft and post while on my trip.  Well......
that didn't go down the way I planned.  I was able to do some coloring but I didn't post.  So sorry.  In fact, I had a back up plan to do a really nice blog about the trip and include photos once I got back.  Well....that didn't happen either.  In fact, I accidentally deleted all my photos that I had on on my phone.  Around 200 of them.  So plan B failed too.  Plan C was to find someone who could restore the photos, well.....you guessed it, that failed also.  So that leaves me with another change of plans.  I thought I would mention about a great opportunity for everyone to participate in a coloring challenge headed up by Kathy Racoosin of The Daily Marker.

Go check out her blog for the details. She can also be found on Instagram.  (That is were I will be posting daily). It is a great way to get a bit of crafting in and receive encouragement from others who have a love of coloring.  The rules are simple and you can participate at any level.

After all, sometimes you just have to go with plan D.

That Kind of Weekend (2nd draft)

Early today I posted to this blog but by evening it disappeared.  Vanished into a cyberspace blackhole.  Since I am not so internet savvy I will try to recreate the missing post.  If you read this, please leave a comment so I know I did it right this time.  Thanks! - Dena

So have you every had a weekend where things just seemed to go right?  I know you are probably used to being asked about things going wrong, but we all experience those kind of days.  Well, I just had one of those kind of weekends where things went right.  It started with a long drive to see my eldest daughter.  It is a three hour drive when the traffic moves smoothly, but with it being a holiday weekend you can usually expect it to almost double.  Much to my surprise we made it in only three hours.  I got to play on on my phone as my husband drove and my youngest daughter entertained herself to our delight.  When we arrived no one was home, but we had a spare key so all was well.  My daughter arrived a few minutes later and we had a nice evening then got some sleep.  The next morning my husband and I went for a pleasant walk to the local 7-Eleven for coffee.  We earned a free cup!  Once we returned to the apartment, I found out that I had selected as a winner of a giveaway!
I was blown away with the generosity and kindness of Jennifer McGuire. (She was the first blogger and You Tube video poster I began to follow.)  I never miss her posts.  Next, I decided to make a German pancake for breakfast and burned my hand on the pan.  (please note:  use a potholder when handling a pan that came out of an oven at 450 degrees)  I ran cold water over my hand and then used a dish towel and ice to control the pain.  Believe it or not, no blister and no scar. The weekend continued this way with things going right.  Everyone needs one of those kind of weekends.

All of that lead me to make this card.

It was one of the cards I made with the Simon Says Stamp June 2016 card kit.  I have been challenging myself to make at least ten cards with each kit as inspired by Vicky Papaioannou.

Here is how I did it:

I started by cutting the very bright and colorful heart paper that was in the kit.  I then stamped the flowers and leaves from the kit in grey ink along the two sides of my panel.  This did not tone down the paper enough for me, so I did a wash of white acrylic paint over the entire panel.  Thin enough so I could still see the images but also mute the colors.  Then I stamped the flowers again in grey ink and the leaves in Factory Green ink by My Favorite Things (one of the inks I won).  Then I used a distress marker, Tattered Rose, as a quick dab in the center of the flowers.  I used Glossy accents in the center of each flower and sat it aside to dry.  For the green mat, I cut a piece of white cardstock and used the Factory Green ink along the edges to coordinated with my top panel.  But it didn't look quite right so I did a white wash over that and I was smiling once again.  I used my Factory Green ink again and stamped a couple leave in each corner.  Now onto the sentiment.  I used a HeroArts stamp set called Acts of Kindness.  I used a black ink and clear embossing powder.  I used Ranger's Multi Medium Matte behind the sentiment to attach it to the card.  All that was left to do was assemble.
The green mat went on first to the cardbase using a double sided adhesive then the top panel was added using a foam tape.  Voila the card is done.

I hope you have fun making cards or just spending time with people you love this weekend.  Maybe it can be one of those kind of weekends for you!

A Bit of Kindness

Although the skies were cloudy and it we had light rain today, I still think it was a great day.  I saw two of my former Sunday School students today.  They were back in town for a graduation ceremony and were kind enough to stop in to give me a hug.  This gave me inspiration for a card that I have been wanting to make for the monthly challenge at Gerda Steiner Designs  http://gsd-stamps.com blog.
She comes up with some wonderful creatures to create with.  When you participate in the challenge, she sends you a free digistamp for the next month's challenge!  Here is the card I made for the May challenge:

I had fun making this card.  Here is a list of supplies I used:
Digital image from Gerda Steiner Designs
Neenah solar white cardstock
Copic Markers
HeroArts kindness stamp set
Simon Says Stamp sequins
Foam mounting tape
Ranger Multi-medium matte adhesive
Ranger distress ink
Sakura Glaze gell pen
Uniball white ink pen
Prismacolor pencils
Spectrum Noir clear overlay pen
Versafine Black ink
Clear detail embossing powder

Yes, I know it sounds like a lot of things, but as you make cards you will find that this really isn't so much.  There is always so much get a the start, but these supplies last a long time.  Make yourself a list of things you want to get and watch for sales, use coupons, and participate in blog hops.  Before you know it you will be creating all sorts of happiness.

Now before I leave you today.....Can you guess where my mistake is?  Yes, I goofed when I made this card.  I was not about to start over so I hid the mistake the best I could.  After all, I'm not perfect....I just live with him.  ;)

The Beginning of a New Adventure

Only Wrong Twice A Year may seem like an odd blog name, but if you knew me it would make you smile.  For years my husband and I would joke with our family that mom is always right.  It would often be modified to say that I was only wrong twice a year.  After all, no one is perfect.  So when I wanted to start this blog, my daughter and I wanted to come up with a name that expressed the idea that this blog is not about being perfect or convincing anyone that I am, but I can still have something worth sharing.

I hope to share some card-making fun with you as well as a few glimpses of real life fun as well.
